Welcome to FORWARD, a digital publication and conversation series from Forecast, a nonprofit that activates, inspires, and advocates for public art that advances justice, health, and human dignity. FORWARD highlights how artists are partnering with cities, institutions, and communities to courageously tackle the vital issues of our time. This installment is from the fourth issue: a separate release of Public Art Now.

Public Art Now is a special collection of selected works included in each issue of FORWARD. Featuring leading voices sharing public art of the moment, each guest-curated selection accompanying the semiannual publication includes current works that move public art forward. This third Public Art Now collection is curated by Mary V. Bordeaux (Sicangu Lakota), a doctoral candidate at Saint Mary’s University (Minneapolis) exploring Lakota women’s leadership and Lakota epistemology, and co-founder and creative director of Racing Magpie, a collaborative space with a Native art gallery and artist studios in Mnilúzahaŋ Otȟúŋwah (Rapid City, SD). Mary's collection highlights five artists who all announce Lakota identity to the world and expand upon popular understandings of public art.
